PHILOSOPHY
Clients describe me as warm, direct, engaged, challenging, and supportive. Everyone is unique, so I use a personalized approach to help you find resolutions to problems, achieve goals and gain insight. No cookie cutter approach or scripts here!
My philosophy is that answers and change emerge from listening, honesty and often, trying something different. In fact, you may have heard that quote about how futile it is to do the same thing over & over and expect different results. So true!
Focusing exclusively on your childhood during our time together is like driving with your eyes fixed firmly on the rear-view mirror! So, in addition to the 'why,' we'll focus on the 'what' and 'how' of your adulthood. In other words, we'll balance exploring the cause and the symptoms while asking, "Given that, what now?" This encourages insightful choices and positive change for your future.
It's also important to look at the many factors that contribute to discomfort and imbalance. So, I offer a 'whole person' approach to our work together. That means we'll look at what works in your life, friendships, what's meaningful, what you eat, how you sleep, how you have fun, etc. If you're interested, we may also explore how other practitioners can support you -- including massage, acupuncture, naturopathy, homeopathy, and nutrition.
BACKGROUND
I have a Master's degree in Applied Behavioral Science with a Systems Counseling concentration from the Leadership Institute of Seattle -- then affiliated with Bastyr University. This degree included a lengthy clinical internship, which I completed at Group Health Cooperative. Additionally, I have a certificate in Clinical Hypnotherapy from Everett Community College and a Baccalaureate degree in Human Services from Western Washington University.
My professional background includes organizing/de-cluttering, human resources, employee relations, workplace wellness, teaching, administration, training, advising/consulting, radio, and professional voice work. Previously, I served as the President of the Board of Directors at a local non-profit that encouraged using integrative healing for depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder.
